The Table | Week 2
What does it mean to truly have a seat at the king's table? In this message, we explore the remarkable story of Mephibosheth from 2 Samuel 9, a man who had nothing to offer, no strength to stand on, and no claim to royal favor, yet found himself permanently welcomed into the presence of the king.
The story cuts straight to the heart of the gospel: seats at the king's table are not reserved for the self-sufficient. Just as Mephibosheth came to David crippled and empty-handed, we are reminded that no amount of good deeds, moral living, or religious effort can earn us a place at God's table. The parallel between David's unexpected grace toward Mephibosheth and God's grace toward us is stunning. If we could earn our way in, the cross would have been unnecessary.
This message challenges us to examine the lens through which we see ourselves and our standing before God, and invites us to receive what only the king himself can give.
